I am a retired middle school art teacher. I decided to stay home when my children were entering middle school. I felt I needed to be more "present" at home. Health has always been a topic of great interest to me and for the past several years I have had a strong draw toward the healing arts. My love for Reiki began the first time I received a treatment. It was like nothing I had ever experienced. I spent the next few years studying, eventually becoming certified as a Reiki Master Teacher and Karuna level II practitioner.
I am a volunteer for Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. I feel that Reiki is a perfect fit for hospice due to it's ability to reduce stress, while releasing emotional and spiritual baggage. Reiki is the unconditional, loving, compassionate energy these patients need. One comment that sticks in my mind after the hospice training is that working with and supporting a dying person is akin to being a "midwife to the soul". It is a beautiful thought!
I have also had the privilege to work with cancer patients, specifically breast cancer patients undergoing chemo treatments. I have had success in releiving pain and discomfort while diminishing the side effects of chemo treatments. This, as you can imagine is indescribable for me! To bring gentle relief without a needle,chemical or drug is amazing.
For the past year I have studied at Yoga Life Institute to become a Yoga Instructor. I am now a graduate and Yoga Alliance Certified Instructor. My love affair with yoga began in college over 20 years ago and it only continues to grow. I still feel that there is so much to learn - a lifetime!
While not a religion, Reiki can be a spiritual path of the highest honor. Its purity and integrity intrigue and humble me on a daily basis.
